Recognizing Innovative Intellectual Achievements
UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management held a special celebration to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Professor Harry Markowitz receiving the Nobel Prize in Economics, which honors great intellectual achievements and benefits to humankind. Markowitz received the award in 1990 for his groundbreaking Modern Portfolio Theory that forever changed investment management. During the commemoration, Chancellor Khosla talked about Markowitz’s contributions, throughout his career and now here at UC San Diego, as our students, faculty and staff benefit from his teaching and innovative thinking. Markowitz announced his plan to gift the Nobel Prize, as well as his John von Neumann award and Wharton-Jacobs Levy prize medals, to the Rady School. More than 300 people attended the event.
