Federal Reserve University Symposium & FOMC Simulation
We are excited to invite you to attend a special symposium presented by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco! The Symposium includes engaging presentations from Fed Reserve staff on:
- Purposes & Functions of the Federal Reserve
- Challenges and trends in the banking industry
- Current economic forecast presented by a Fed economist
- The Fed’s role in setting monetary policy
- The effect of monetary policy decisions on the U.S. economy
Representatives of the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank will guide students through a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting simulation. The FOMC is the main body that makes decisions about monetary policy in the United States (You probably have heard about quantitative easing, federal funds rate target and inflation target, among others, which are all set and implemented by the FOMC).
Students will represent members of the FOMC and economists of the Fed. Each student will analyze of the current economic situation (with some students focusing on specific aspects of the economy) and develop a policy recommendation.
