 AFWA invites Accounting and Finance students to participate in a special event that is designed to help you prepare for your future and enter the workforce.  This is also a great event for members in transition.  This event is free for students and members of AFWA and only $10 for non-members. 

The opportunities and events scheduled for the night include:

Résumé Review:  BRING YOUR RESUME for a wonderful chance to have your résumé reviewed by top hiring management personnel and those who know what employers will be looking for in a new hire.

  • Speaker Presentations: These topics will focus on teaching you skills in preparation for the transition between school and work.
  • Networking: Don’t miss this chance to meet many members of the accounting and finance workforce that you will soon be joining! Connections as well as qualifications are essential in finding a job.
  • Scholarship: Find out about AFWA San Diego scholarship awards as well as AFWA National scholarship awards.
  • Scholarship Opportunity Drawing: Enter the drawing for a chance to win great prizes! The proceeds will benefit the AFWA San Diego scholarship fund.
  • Appetizers:  Appetizers will be served after the presentation.

A 12-Step Marketing Plan for Your Job Search

Presented by Julie Brown, President of SDI Staffing, this will teach you how to conduct your job search efficiently and effectively.

Julie Brown is the President of SDI Staffing (SDIS).  She started SDIS in 1995 and specializes in placing temporary and direct-hire employees throughout Southern California for the insurance and financial services industries.  She is a member of the ASA and California Staffing Professionals.  She has been recognized with numerous awards, “Employer of the Year” by the San Diego Workforce Partnership and the Career Sponsorship Award by the OPT Program at Grossmont College for her dedication to educate young people.

Interview 101

Presented by Martha Mendez, Senior Recruiter for Union Bank, this will teach you what to do before, during and after an interview.

Martha Mendez has over 30 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.  She is currently responsible for the management of Union Bank’s staffing functions for various business units including Marketing, Product, Business Banking and Finance throughout California and the Pacific Northwest.  Martha’s community involvement includes serving as Immediate Past President of the National Hispanic Bankers Association, Past President of the San Diego Hispanic Bankers Association and Chair & Vice-Chair of the San Diego Employers Advisory Board (EDD).

Presented by Holly Eklund, Chief Concierge at Rancho Bernardo Inn, this will teach your how to present yourself appropriately for a job interview. 

Holly Eklund has served as a manager, buyer and personal fashion consultant for Pappagallo, US Shoe Corporation, Saks Fifth Avenue Las Vegas, Easy Spirit, Draper’s and Damon’s. She is currently the Chief Concierge at Rancho Bernardo Inn, a four-star four-diamond property. Holly is very passionate about personal service and fashion and transforming the lives of women through building self-esteem.
