Institute of Management Accounting Student Night

On March 20, 2014, the San Diego Chapter of the Institute of Management Accounting will be hosting Student Night at the University of San Diego Joan Kroc Institute beginning at 5:30 PM.

Our featured speaker will be Sgt. Jesse Cottle who was deployed three times from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to Iraq as a radio operator. He transferred into the explosive ordnance disposal field for a more direct role in the war.

On July 19, 2009, Jesse’s longtime friend and fellow team member, Staff Sgt. Patrick Hilty, was preparing to disable a possible IED in the bomb-cratered corridors of Now Zad, Afghanistan.

Jesse walked by, heading down the alley toward another possible bomb.  Instead, he triggered one underfoot, a low metal version that the minesweeper couldn’t detect.

The sound of his footsteps, the jangle of his equipment, the crackle of the radio, it all went mute. Jesse was blasted into the air and landed in a crater with his mouth stuffed with dirt, rocks, splinters and blood. Cottle struggled to see through the dust cloud whether he had legs. “If I’m lucky I’m only missing one,” he thought.

Join us on to hear the rest of Jesse’s story and his life as a USD student.

Our second speaker for the evening is long-time holder of the Certificate in Management Accounting and a member of the Board for the San Diego Chapter of the IMA.  Thomas Francl will discuss how the IMA can help you get started and be successful with your accounting career.  The key word for his presentation is “soap”.

Registration is only $10 for students and includes a heavy appetizer buffet.  Be sure to bring your business cards and be ready to network with professional accountants.

To register, visit www.IMASD.org by March 17, 2014.
