Breaking Into Political Journalism and Social Media:
Info Session & Internship Opportunity
From Facebook to Twitter, Google+ to LinkedIn, we’ve witnessed the evolution of social media from a personal networking tool into an essential skill in the professional world. But Facebooking with friends is a lot different than building a career in social media. Social media has also become an integral part of journalism, business, and political outreach. Online journalism and freelance writing is changing minds. That’s where we come in.
IVN News (Independent Voter Network, http://IVN.us) is a non-profit, non-partisan news site committed to four etiquette guidelines; no personal attacks, no partisan-based attacks, no self-promotion, and sources must be substantiated. The goal is to provide a platform for qualified contributors to have instant access to publish in the news cycle. IVN reaches 10 million people a month online.
On Thursday of Week 2 (October 10), we will present “Breaking Into Political Journalism and Social Media” an information session. This is an opportunity to learn about the basics of professional social networking, writing for the news cycle, and how you can get your foot in the door.
